I am delighted to introduce my newest gothic horror creation, Whispers at the Quantock Sanatorium, and to announce that I have released a FREE introductory podcast episode, inviting listeners to step inside this unsettling new world.
Set against the haunting landscape of Somerset’s Quantock Hills, this latest creation explores isolation, forgotten histories, institutional secrets and the disturbing possibility that some places retain far more than memories.
And this time, I wanted to invite you into the darkness through sound.
Welcome to the Quantock Sanatorium
Imagine an imposing Victorian institution standing beneath the winter skies of the Quantocks.
Its stone walls have witnessed generations of suffering. Its corridors hold the echoes of patients whose stories have long since been forgotten. Beyond its windows, the surrounding landscape stretches into darkness.
There are beds that should be empty.
Windows that should reveal nothing.
And a presence that perhaps has never truly left.
The Quantock Sanatorium is more than the setting of this newest creation. It is a place where the boundaries between memory, reality and the supernatural begin to unravel.
For those familiar with my writing, you will recognise my fascination with forgotten places, ancestral burdens and the secrets that landscapes hold. This new project continues that exploration, taking readers and listeners into a particularly unsettling corner of Somerset Gothic horror.

Why the Quantocks?
Somerset continues to be at the heart of my gothic storytelling.
There is something extraordinary about its landscapes: the ancient woodland, isolated buildings, rolling hills and winter mist that seems to conceal more than it reveals.
The Quantocks offer a particularly compelling backdrop for a story about confinement, memory and the things humanity would rather forget.
With Whispers at the Quantock Sanatorium, I wanted to explore another aspect of gothic horror: the institution itself.
A building originally intended as a place of treatment and recovery becomes something altogether more sinister when its history refuses to remain buried.
What happens when the voices of the forgotten are finally heard?
And what if some of those voices do not belong to the dead?
A New Chapter in My Gothic Storytelling
Readers who have followed The Shadow Keeper, The Hollow Below and The Continuance Cycle will know that I am drawn to stories in which place is never merely a backdrop.
The landscape remembers. Buildings conceal. The past has consequences.
Whispers at the Quantock Sanatorium introduces a new setting and mystery while retaining the atmospheric, psychological and supernatural elements that shape my fiction.
